Trustees 03/2009
Bolton Public Library
Board of Trustees
Meeting, March 9, 2009
Temporary quarters

6:00 p.m.
Present: Bob Zak, Roland Ochsenbein, Chris Sterling
Also Present: Kelly Collins, Burt Shnitzler

Agenda Items:

Minutes:
The minutes of the February 9, 2009 meeting were approved.

Director’s Report:
There is now a STRP participant working on building the new library web site.
CWMARS has reduced the number of holds a patron may place by one half.

FY10 Budget:
Burt met with the board to discuss the FY10 budget. The Advisory Board has requested that the increase in the library’s budget be kept to 80%, reducing the budget to $299,000. Burt suggested possible cuts – lowering the shelver salary, and lowering the percentage of the budget that is spent on books and materials from 20% to 19%. Since we will be moving into a much larger facility, Kelly and the trustees agreed that the higher percentage should be kept. Kelly proposed reducing the two new 40 hour positions to 35 hours, and not hire additional shelvers at this time for the new building.
We still have not heard which department’s budget the custodian will be under.
A motion was made by Chris, seconded by Roland and passed unanimously to present a budget of $299,333 to Advisory.

LCC:
The steel for the new building will be delivered tomorrow (March 10th). The building is about four weeks behind schedule at the site. We will probably be in temporary quarters through the end of January. The LCC will meet on March 26th to vote on a reduced budget.

Capital Campaign:
In the best case scenario, the capital campaign has exceeded its goal, raising 1,049,469.67, including gifts in kind and all pledges. It must however subtract $15,650 in capital campaign expenses. In the worst case scenario, the capital campaign is short $73,000.The trustees will need to start working on policies for the new building.

The next meeting will be Monday, April 6th at 6:00 p.m. in the temporary quarters.

Respectfully submitted, the Trustees,

Robert Zak                                            Roland Ochsenbein                     Christine Sterling
